Iran and Azerbaijan Sign Cooperation Agreement

On January 22, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a cooperation agreement. The document was signed in Tehran by Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadeghi, and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Shahin Mustafayev. The agreement aims to enhance bilateral relations.

The 16th meeting of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission was held in Tehran on January 21-22. During which the two countries formalized the agreement.

Sadeghi highlighted the strategic importance of the Rasht-Astara railway in developing a freight corridor between Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia. The project will create new opportunities to optimize transportation flows and strengthen cooperation.

According to both parties, the agreement opens new prospects for collaboration in areas such as transport, customs services, energy (oil, gas, electricity), water resource management, preferential trade, and investments. Its goal is to promote the comprehensive development of ties between the two countries.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Shahin Mustafayev, also met with Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, to discuss regional peace-related issues. Pezeshkian underlined the importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that the further expansion of mutual ties would transform the two nations into strategic partners.
