A criminal prosecution has been initiated against the former head of the State Property Management Department

A criminal prosecution has been initiated against Arman Sahakyan, the former head of the State Property Management Department under the Government, and 12 other individuals. The Investigative Committee has reported that they are accused of abuse of power or official duties, large-scale money laundering, and assisting public officials in committing crimes.

According to the Investigative Committee, between 2012-2015, land plots were illegally allocated under the pretext of adjusting the territories of three educational institutions in Yerevan, to conceal the criminal origin of the property, these plots were sold through formal auctions to affiliated individuals. They are accused of abusing their official powers and using those powers to carry out large-scale money laundering.

Arman Sahakyan and seven other individuals have been arrested, and court motions have been filed for their detention. Various precautionary measures have been applied to the defendants, with Sahakyan being placed under administrative supervision.

Previously, Sahakyan was also found guilty of illegal property sales and was required to pay compensation of about 178 million dram to the state.
