Annual Festival of Local Dish Kurkut Held in Kapan

On November 8, the 6th annual Kurkut Festival took place in the administrative area of Norashenik village, Kapan community.

Unlike previous years, this year’s festival was held in the format of a fair with a charitable concept. Upon the initiative of Community Head Gevorg Parsyan, the total amount raised from all pavilions – 3,218,110 AMD – will be directed towards fulfilling the dream of Davit and Dianna, residents of the Kapan Special School No. 3 dormitory, by resolving their housing issue.

Thematic pavilions for the event were prepared by the community’s preschool educational institutions and the Youth Council adjacent to the Community Head. Presented here were kurkut, lavash (flatbread), pickles, zhingyalov hats (herbal flatbread), gata (Armenian pastry), pakhlava, as well as teas, coffee, dried fruits, jams, and preserves.

20 master chefs participated in the event, who were presented with symbolic gifts—skewers—by the Community Head. The jury selected the person who prepared the most delicious kurkut—Karlen Martirosyan from Tsav village; he was recognized as the winner of the “Kurkut Festival-2025” award. Aram Hayrapetyan won the “Best Toast” category.

The festival was accompanied by a concert program featuring performances by Barbar Band, Shushan Petrosyan, Arsen Safaryan, and Arsen Grigoryan (Mro).

Sports tournaments in arm wrestling and tug-of-war were also held. The winners were awarded certificates, medals, cups, and gifts.

The festival was organized and implemented through the joint efforts of the Kapan Municipality and the Culture Center, with the support of the “Kapan” Charitable Foundation.
