Two Broadcasters Violated Legal Requirements

The Television and Radio Commission (TRC) applied administrative penalties against two broadcasting companies with a decision made on November 11.

The Commission suspended the license of “FTV” LLC for 20 days. This decision was based on an application from the chief editor of “Avroranyus,” according to which broadcasting was not carried out continuously for 24 hours on three frequencies in the Ararat Province. The company had explained that there was a technical malfunction, but the Commission did not consider this a sufficient basis.

The second issue concerned “KISS FM.” The Commission reported that during monitoring, it was recorded that between October 6 and 10, certain hosts on “KISS FM” programs mentioned products from the “Manukyan” Wine and Brandy Factory on air, and this was done outside the hours specified by law. According to the TRC’s assessment and current legislation, these mentions constituted “umbrella advertising.” An administrative fine of 500,000 drams was applied against “KISS FM.”
