A State Duty of 45,000 AMD is Proposed for the Import of Metal Rebar

The draft amendment to the Law “On State Duty,” which aims to increase the state duty on the import of metal rebar to protect the interests of local producers, was discussed on November 12 during the second reading in the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. The bill was authored by Civil Contract (CP) deputies Sergey Bagratyan and Narek Ghahramanyan.

The draft proposes setting a state duty of 45,000 AMD per one ton of metal rebar, down from the previous 55,000 AMD. The rapporteurs noted that the costs of gas, electricity, and wages for rebar production in Iran amount to 33,000 AMD per 1 ton compared to production in Armenia.

Another justification for the draft is that the customs duty for imports between the EAEU countries and Iran is currently 0 percent, which allows importers to lower the sales price.

The Committee provided a positive conclusion to the revised version. Simply put, the law will be approved 10 days after publication and will apply to all new licenses.
