Armenia and Georgia Will Transfer Citizens Subject to Deportation
he Armenian government today approved the bill on the ratification of the “Agreement between the Governments of Armenia and Georgia on the Readmission of Persons Residing Without Authorization.” The purpose of the agreement is to jointly combat illegal migration by identifying and returning both their own citizens and citizens of third countries and stateless persons found in the territories of the two states.
The conclusion of an international agreement regulating readmission issues between Armenia and Georgia will provide an opportunity to take joint and coordinated steps in the matters of identifying and organizing the return of both their own citizens and third-country nationals and stateless persons found in an irregular status on the territories of the two states.
It will also establish a legal basis for regulating the readmission process by defining the list of documents confirming the citizenship of the Parties, the list of documents proving the existence of grounds for the readmission of third-country nationals and stateless persons, the procedure for transferring persons under escort, the procedure for conducting interviews, the format of the readmission request for a person, deadlines, and other related issues.
The Government of the Republic of Armenia will first submit the agreement to the Constitutional Court to verify its compliance with the Constitution, and then it will be presented to the National Assembly.
