Preliminary investigation into the suicide of a compulsory fixed-term serviceman has been completed
The Investigative Committee reports that the preliminary investigation into the criminal proceedings initiated regarding the suicide of compulsory fixed-term serviceman N.G. has been completed.
The preliminary investigation revealed that in the period between September 27 and October 11, 2024, N.G. failed to uphold a promise given by another serviceman, A.Gh., while on duty at a combat position. As a result, A.Gh. humiliated N.G.’s honor and dignity.
Consequently, on November 13, 2024, N.G. committed suicide by hanging. The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings also revealed that the commander of the rifle battalion, A.Gh., used violence against five servicemen for disciplinary violations committed while on duty at the combat position.
Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the compulsory fixed-term serviceman based on Article 522, Part 2, Point 2 (Driving a serviceman to suicide through negligence) and Article 524, Part 2, Point 3 (Insulting a serviceman) of the Criminal Code. The commander of the rifle battalion is facing charges under Article 520, Part 5 (Using violence or threatening to use violence against a subordinate, which negligently caused a person’s death) and Article 520, Part 3, Point 2 (Using violence or threatening to use violence against a subordinate) (4 episodes) of the Criminal Code.
The criminal proceedings, with the indictment, have been sent to the supervising prosecutor for confirmation and referral to court to proceed with the substantive examination of the case.
