Major accumulation of trucks at Upper Lars: Over 2,500 vehicles await their turn
A serious traffic jam has once again occurred at Upper Lars, the only functioning border crossing point between Russia and Georgia, where approximately 2,500 heavy trucks have accumulated.
According to information from the authorities of North Ossetia, about 2,500 trucks are currently waiting at the Upper Lars checkpoint, around 2,200 of which are registered in the electronic queue.
The main reason for the congestion is poor weather conditions. Truck traffic was restricted on the evening of December 13, and was permitted again on December 14. During this time, vehicles were unable to cross the border promptly, resulting in increased queues.
Up to 600 trucks usually cross the border towards Armenia daily, and about 350 vehicles towards Georgia. This is despite the fact that the checkpoint is technically capable of serving more vehicles.
To alleviate the problem, the North Ossetian authorities plan to construct new parking lots for trucks.
