Driver and passenger who ran over two Police Guard officers in Yerevan arrested
The identities of the driver and passenger of the vehicle that ran over two Police Guard officers in Yerevan have been established. They were arrested and taken to the Nor Nork division of the Community Police.
The incident occurred on the evening of January 15 on Gyurjyan Street. According to preliminary information, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle exhibited suspicious behavior and subsequently attempted to flee from law enforcement. The Guard officers tried to stop the car, but the driver disregarded the “stop” command and drove towards them, running over two police officers.
During the escape, the vehicle moved erratically, entering the oncoming traffic lane. During the pursuit, one of the Guard officers fired a warning shot from their assigned weapon, but the driver continued driving. Given the circumstances, shots were also fired at the vehicle’s tires.
In the 1st Nork-Marash Lane, the driver lost control of the car, causing it to crash into a utility pole. The driver and passenger attempted to flee on foot but were swiftly apprehended by the police.
The individuals were identified as 34 and 35-year-old residents of Yerevan. A personal search of the 34-year-old man revealed 1.92 grams of a powdery substance. He confessed that the substance was cocaine and that he had acquired it through a Telegram channel.
The Guard officers who were run over have been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical treatment; their health condition is assessed as satisfactory. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
