House arrest imposed on Samvel Karapetyan
The prosecution’s motion to select detention as a preventive measure against Samvel Karapetyan has been denied.
The court has applied house arrest, according to his lawyer, Aram Vardevanyan.
According to the latter, the court session lasted approximately 14 hours with the participation of the entire defense team. Vardevanyan characterized the events as an “absurd intensity” of political persecution.
It should be recalled that yesterday, by the decision of the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal, it was planned to transfer Karapetyan back to a penitentiary institution.
Samvel Karapetyan was arrested on June 18. He is accused of tax evasion, money laundering, and making public calls directed against the constitutional order.
On October 13, the charges were amended, adding episodes of money laundering on a particularly large scale. On December 30, Karapetyan’s preventive measure of detention was replaced by bail and house arrest.
