Current situation on Armenia’s roadways

As of 21:00 on January 20, there are difficult-to-pass roads in Armenia, while the Upper Lars remains closed to all types of vehicles. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of black ice.

Throughout the night of January 20 and the morning of January 21, slick black ice is possible on a significant portion of the republic’s roads, which is expected to cause traffic difficulties. The Road Department reports that road maintenance organizations are continuing snow removal and gritting (salt and sand) operations to ensure traffic safety.

The Meghri mountain pass, the Vanadzor-Dilijan section, the road from the Jermuk intersection to Kapan, and the Lusashogh-Lanjarr road are closed for heavy vehicles with trailers. The Vardenyats mountain pass is also closed for trailer vehicles and is difficult to pass for all other types of transport.

Blizzards are reported in the Aragats and Artik regions, while black ice is present in certain sections of the roads in Aparan, Aragats, Sevan, Dilijan, Chambarak, Martuni, Gavar, Abovyan, Hrazdan, Nairi, Sisian, Goris, Ashotsk, and Amasia.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution, travel at low speeds, and use winter tires or snow chains for safe movement.
