Court extends detention period of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan by one month

The court has denied the motion filed by the defense of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, the Primate of the Diocese of Aragatsotn, to lift his detention.

The court decided to extend the detention period by one month.

Simultaneously, all types of restrictions previously imposed on Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan are being lifted.

It is recalled that he has been in custody since October 16 for a two-month period, after which the detention term was extended twice more.

Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan is charged under two articles: obstructing the exercise of electoral rights by using official or service powers, and compelling participation in assemblies, also through the use of official powers.

In the mentioned criminal case, former clergymen Aramayis Takhmazyan (formerly Father Thaddeus) and Stepan Asatryan (formerly Father Aram), who have been defrocked, have been recognized as victims.
