PACE Winter session commences in Strasbourg

The Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) commenced in Europe on January 26 and will continue until January 30.

The agenda for the plenary sessions includes a range of significant political and international issues. Key events of the session include speeches by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan. The RA Minister of Foreign Affairs has already departed for Strasbourg.

During the PACE Winter Session, four urgent topics are scheduled for discussion: challenges threatening the international order in the context of the Greenland case; issues of accountability, humanitarian protection, and adherence to international law following the ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank; the 65th anniversary of the adoption of the European Social Charter; and the necessity of reforming the election procedure for the President of the Parliamentary Assembly to restore democratic processes.

Discussions are also planned during the session regarding the assurance of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine, as well as other issues related to the security of the European continent.

The Assembly will also hold a farewell ceremony for the outgoing President and will elect a new President. The final agenda of PACE will be approved on the first day of the session.

A number of deputies from the National Assembly of Armenia have also been dispatched to Strasbourg to participate in the first part of the PACE annual session.
