The investigation into the case of the “Ural” vehicle accident that claimed the lives of 4 servicemen has been completed

On April 12, 2024, a “Ural” vehicle malfunctioned, resulting in an accident that caused the death of 4 servicemen. Another 18 soldiers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were hospitalized.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle’s technical issues had been reported to the head of the technical department and the head of the automotive service of the military unit prior to the incident. However, no action was taken. The vehicle was not inspected at the motor depot. It was allowed to operate despite its malfunction. Consequently, the vehicle veered into a gorge.

For violating the rules of vehicle operation or use (under Part 4 of Article 538), criminal charges have been brought against a conscripted serviceman, the head of the technical department of the military unit, the head of the automotive service, two commanders of the unit’s rifle battalion, and the technical supervisor of the military unit. The latter is also accused of official falsification (under Part 1 of Article 445).

Details of the incident had previously been disclosed. The serviceman parked the vehicle on a slope to allow the personnel inside to ascend to the positions, replacing those descending. Due to the vehicle’s technical issues, the engine failed to start. Without it, the vehicle was moved using the gearbox, which caused the driver to lose control, leading the vehicle to fall into a gorge.

The statement indicates that the investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to the military prosecutor’s office of the Syunik garrison.
