Seizure of 8 tons of meat: Violations in bread, dairy, and meat sectors

In 2025, the Food Safety Inspection Body conducted supervisory measures in the field of food production and circulation.

During a press conference today, the Head of the Inspection Body, Tigran Petrosyan, noted that 1,819 violations were recorded out of 7,569 inspections throughout the year. Most of these violations related to the sale of expired food products, breaches of sanitary and hygienic norms, and the absence of medical examinations for staff.

Within the framework of the inspections, a high rate of violations was recorded in the bread production sector (257 violations out of 413 inspections) and the dairy production sector (80 violations out of 219 inspections). Of the 1,010 planned inspections for 2025, 697 were carried out, as 113 business entities had ceased their activities.

Meat products were also kept under strict control.

According to FSIB (Food Safety Inspection Body) data, approximately 8 tons of meat were seized from the market and destroyed due to a lack of slaughterhouse origin documentation or safety norm violations. Although the number of operating slaughterhouses decreased from 139 to 128, slaughterhouse slaughter volumes increased compared to previous years, reaching 31,000 tons. As a result of the supervision, it was revealed that some business entities refuse to carry out sanitary slaughter and are putting sick animals up for sale.
