Museums join Saint Sargis Day celebrations

Armenian museums have joined the celebrations organized on the occasion of Saint Sargis Day with a diverse range of events.

On January 30, all unmarried visitors to the History Museum of Armenia will receive traditional salty cookies (aghi blit). On January 31, the museum has scheduled a special tour of the exhibition “Sacred Dialogue: From the Louvre to the History Museum of Armenia,” hosted by singer and actor Hayk Petrosyan. During the tour, visitors will have the opportunity to view exhibits presented in Armenia from the Louvre for the first time, displayed alongside pieces from the History Museum of Armenia.

Following an established tradition at the National Gallery of Armenia, icons of “Saint Sargis” and “Saint George” by unknown 18th-19th century Armenian artists will be exhibited in the Ancient and Medieval Armenian Art halls starting January 30.

The Museum of Folk Arts offers visitors a festive program, including the preparation and tasting of traditional salty cookies and pokhindz (roasted flour) balls, as well as folk song lessons and a quiz. The winner of the quiz will receive a photoshoot session in traditional Armenian costume (taraz).

Regional museums have also joined the festivities. On the eve of Saint Sargis Day, January 30, young visitors to the Orbeli Brothers House-Museum will receive salty cookies and be introduced to selected excerpts from the love letters of the Orbeli brothers.
