Minister of Economy provides details on trucks stranded in Georgia
Yerevan is still awaiting clarification from Georgia regarding the detention of Armenian trucks at the Kobi terminal. RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan told reporters that more than 100 Armenian trucks, primarily loaded with construction materials, remain on Georgian territory.
The Minister noted that the Armenian side has not yet received a detailed explanation concerning specific violations allegedly committed by the drivers.
Earlier, drivers reported that the issue arose on February 12. The trucks were stopped at the terminal in the town of Kobi, located near the Upper Lars checkpoint. They claimed to have no documentation issues and were unaware of why they were being denied entry into the country.
While some trucks were permitted to cross the border, the rest remain at the TIR-park in Kobi.
Responding to journalists’ questions regarding a possible political subtext to the situation, Papoyan refrained from making any comments.
He also mentioned that he requested clarification on the matter from the Georgian Minister of Economy, Mariam Kvrivishvili, during her visit to Yerevan a few days ago. The Georgian colleague stated that the issue is not related to her department; the Armenian trucks were stopped by the Financial Police of Georgia, which operates under the Ministry of Finance.
It should be recalled that Armenian trucks also faced transit issues in the spring and summer of 2025 related to the supply of brandy and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and this is the first such instance this year.
