180-200 trucks waiting at the Agarak checkpoint
At the Agarak checkpoint, near the border of Armenia and Iran, approximately 180-200 trucks are currently in queue. This was reported by the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of the Republic of Armenia in response to an inquiry from a media outlet.
According to the SRC, communication disruptions frequently occur on the Iranian side, leading to a slowdown in border processes. Despite these disruptions, the movement of trucks continues, primarily through a paper-based system, which is more time-consuming. Certain restrictions may be possible for citizens to ensure the regular movement of trucks and to avoid queues.
Regarding cargo transportation volumes, the SRC notes that due to the tension in the Islamic Republic of Iran, carriers prefer to transport goods from China and Middle Eastern countries via the Georgian route, bypassing Iranian territory. Consequently, a certain decrease in cargo transportation through Iran has been observed in recent days, though it is not yet highly significant.
