Armenia May Acquire Su-30MKI Fighters from India

Armenia has initiated discussions with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the delivery of eight to twelve Su-30MKIs. This was reported by the French publication Avions Legendaries.

During the “International Defense Aviation Exhibition 2024” exercises, Head of the Aviation Department of Armenia’s Armed Forces, Hovhannes Vardanyan, mentioned that they are considering the possibility of upgrading Su-30 fighters with the assistance of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

In the first phase, Armenia aims to upgrade four Su-30s. This modernization will involve the radar system, with the Russian PESA radar being replaced by the Uttam AESA radar.

In the second phase, Armenia could acquire eight to twelve Su-30MKI fighters from HAL.

As early as September, The Print reported that Armenia had approached India with a proposal to potentially purchase Indian missiles, as well as to explore the modernization of its Su-30 fleet.
