Srbuhi Galyan Appointed as Minister of Justice
By the decree of the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, Srbuhi Galyan has been appointed as the Minister of Justice. Nikol Pashinyan has met with the newly appointed minister and the former minister. This information is provided by the government’s press service.
Pashinyan expressed gratitude to Grigor Minasyan for his work as Minister of Justice and noted that significant reforms have been carried out in this area. He also addressed the legal support provided by the Ministry of Justice in the process of border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
We genuinely want to have justice and fairness in the Republic of Armenia; that is, we do not want justice and fairness merely in a formal sense, but we truly desire to have justice and fairness. We indeed want an independent judicial system because we have never wanted, do not want, and will not want a puppet judicial system, as that contradicts the value system that is ours, which we have adopted, and for which we have taken on the responsibility of governance in the Republic of Armenia. We do not want a judicial system that acts as an executor for the executive branch or any other authority; we do not want a judicial system that is a servant to anyone at all, we want a judicial system that is capable of implementing standards including those of justice and fairness, – said Pashinyan.
He also congratulated the newly appointed Minister of Justice. In turn, the new minister promised to spare no effort or enthusiasm in strengthening the institutional foundations of the fight against corruption, ensuring the continuity of judicial reforms, and providing proper legal support for all processes stemming from the Government’s program.
The position of Minister of Justice had been vacant for about a month. Grigor Minasyan had resigned amid a petition within the Civil Contract party that aimed to discuss the appropriateness of his tenure.
