
Illegal Logging in Vayots Dzor Province
A case of illegal logging has been uncovered in the town of Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor Province. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Along the banks of the Arpa River, near a restaurant complex, 40 freshly cut willow stumps were found. A 40-year-old man admitted that between December and January 8, he had cut down these trees without the necessary permits, using the wood as fuel.
The documentation of the case has been forwarded to the Vayots Dzor Regional Investigative Department.
Illegal logging is a criminal offense in the Republic of Armenia. According to Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, cutting or damaging trees without proper authorization, causing significant harm to the environment, is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to two years.
