12 defendants in the Abelyan street shooting case

Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against 12 individuals in connection with the armed incident that took place on February 18 in the Ajapnyak administrative district of Yerevan. This information was released by the Investigative Committee of the RA.

According to the investigative body, as a result of extensive investigative and operational-search measures, a number of circumstances of the case have been clarified, and the main circle of individuals involved in the incident has been identified.

The preliminary investigation revealed that one person was murdered and an attempt was made to murder seven others using firearms in a manner dangerous to the lives of others. The identity of the person suspected of murder and attempted murder has been established. Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against him on charges of murder, attempted murder, hooliganism, and illegal circulation of firearms. A decision has been made to arrest him.

In addition, public criminal prosecution has also been initiated against 11 other individuals who participated in the armed incident.

Earlier, law enforcement officers had conducted simultaneous searches at more than 40 addresses in Yerevan. According to the Investigative Committee, objects of significance for the case and physical evidence were discovered during the searches.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

As a reminder, shots were fired on Abelyan Street on February 18, at around 16:00. Bullet casings from a pistol and an automatic rifle, a knife, and traces of blood were found at the scene. One of the seven wounded persons taken to the “Armenia” Medical Center died during surgery, while the other six underwent surgery. According to doctors, their lives are not currently in danger.
