23 thousand dollars to exempt 3 conscripts from military service or postpone their conscription

The Prosecutor General’s Office reports that the head of the conscription department received a bribe of 23 thousand US dollars to assist in exempting three servicemen from mandatory military service or granting them a deferment.

The criminal investigation revealed that he received bribes of 10 thousand, 8 thousand, and 5 thousand dollars from three different individuals and prepared forged documents, in one case declaring the servicemen unfit for service, and in another, temporarily unfit.

The criminal act was uncovered, and on September 30, criminal proceedings were initiated against the head. He has been arrested. Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, on December 6, 2024, the indictment was confirmed, and the case materials were transferred to the Anti-Corruption Court for further examination.

The law stipulates that public servants are prohibited from demanding or receiving any type of profit or advantage through the abuse of their position. In cases of receiving a large bribe (over 500,000 drams), the individual is subject to criminal liability.
