Changes will be made to the “National Anthem of the Republic of Armenia” law

On November 28, the issue of making changes to the national anthem of Armenia was among the non-reported questions of the government. The changes will be made both in the anthem’s lyrics and in several other provisions of the existing law. Specifically, the performance of the anthem will become mandatory before the start of classes every Monday in schools, kindergartens, and colleges. Award ceremonies will also be accompanied by the national anthem. The draft was developed and presented by members of the National Assembly Sisak Gabrielyan, Taguhi Ghazaryan, and Alen Simonyan.

It is proposed to edit the lyrics of the national anthem, with the fourth stanza suggested to be moved to the second stanza. According to these changes, the anthem will have the following version:

Mer Hayreniq, azat ankakh,
Vor aprel e daredar
𝄆 Yur vordiqė ard kanchum en
Azat, ankakh Hayastan. 𝄇

Amenayn tegh mahė mi e
Mard mi angam pit merrni,
𝄆 Bayts yerani, vor yur azgi
Azatuthyan kė zohvi. 𝄇

Aha yeghbayr qez mi drosh,
Vor im dzerrqov gortzetsi
𝄆 Gishernerė yes qun chegha,
Artasuqov lvatsi. 𝄇

Nayir nran yereq guynov,
Nvirakan mer nshan
𝄆 Thogh phoghphoghi thshnamu dem
Thogh misht pantza Hayastan. 𝄇

In certain cases provided by law, the government may allow the use of a shortened version of the national anthem.
