Minister of BTA: “The Ministry of Defense signed contracts with 27 domestic producers”

Hayrapetyan, Minister of High-tech Industry of Armenia, stated in an interview to the Public Television that the Ministry of Defense signed 52 three-year contracts with 27 Armenian military-industrial companies, the total budget of which is 171 billion drams.

The Minister of Defense and Security mentioned why the Government is interested in developing the domestic military industry.

The first and most important goal is to ensure technological progress for the armed forces through the development of the military industry. During these 8 months, the military-industrial companies have paid about 6 billion drams in taxes. About 60 companies are registered in the strategic register, where about 2500 specialists work.

Hayrapetyan also mentioned the second main goal, highlighting Armenia’s international image.

Outstanding weapons will be produced, which will change Armenia’s international image and increase Armenia’s weight in political, geopolitical, diplomatic, and commercial relations with different countries of the world.

To the question of what strategy has been developed in this area, the minister stated that there is no plan for the development of military industry as such

There is no military industry development program as such. It was last updated in 2018, but a lot has changed since then. I think that at least within the next 1 year we are obliged to have a strategy, on which we have already started working.

The minister also informed that the Ministry of Defense signed contracts with a number of companies.
