Underground Passage in Front of the Sports and Concert Complex to Be Renovated
The underground passage in front of the Sports and Concert Complex will be renovated. The Yerevan Municipality has shared a statement and a video regarding this.
The statement mentions that the underground passage in front of the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex has been changing for decades, becoming increasingly dangerous for citizens. The leased area did not serve its intended purpose, as it was turned into a recreational space with rooms for overnight stays and similar facilities.
To renovate the underground passage, under the permission of Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, unauthorized constructions covering an area of 190 square meters were demolished.
There are 39 underground passages in Yerevan, with the highest number located in the city center, where 15 underground passages can be found. Despite the municipality’s renovation plans, there are still many underground passages in the city that are in poor condition, lacking lighting, and people are afraid to pass through them in the evening.
Some of Yerevan’s underground passages suffer from unsanitary conditions, with a constant unpleasant odor. This was particularly the case in the underground passage near St. Sarkis Church in the Central Administrative District, at the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Grigor Lusavorich Street. There have been promises for years to renovate this passage, but it remains in a deplorable state.
