Museums will have a shop with souvenir products
The issue of creating a souvenir shop at the History Museum of Armenia was discussed during the session of the Museum Council held at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MESCS) of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the presented model, the shop is intended to be organized in such a way that it becomes a logical continuation of the museum’s main exhibition. Andreasian noted that the sale of souvenirs should not in any way undermine the historical and cultural value of the museum as a monument.
The members of the council and representatives of the ministry who participated in the session also discussed the types of souvenir products, the possibilities of replicating museum exhibits, the format of furnishing, and various approaches to organizing work with visitors.
It should be noted that the model according to which souvenir shops operate as a continuation of the exhibition has long been applied in the world’s leading museums. Such an approach is widespread in many museums in Europe, the USA, and Asia, where the sale of souvenirs is considered a natural part of museum activities and an important source for the financial stability of cultural institutions.
