On October 31, the kickoff event for the program “Development of Irrigated Agriculture in the Ararat and Armavir Regions” took place in Yerevan. The aim of the program is to transform irrigated agriculture in Armenia and support farmers and stakeholders in the Ararat and Armavir regions.
The program is particularly important for the development of agriculture in Armenia and the efficient management of water resources, as the modernization and improvement of irrigation systems will enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to the development of rural communities, emphasized Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan.
The program is funded by the European Union and the French Development Agency. It will contribute to the implementation of ongoing reforms in the irrigation sector, the introduction of innovative and sustainable mechanisms for the development of irrigated agriculture, the offering of quality training programs for farmers, and the expansion of the cultivation of various crops.
The irrigation program is planned to be implemented on a pilot basis over approximately 2,000 hectares of land in the Ararat and Armavir regions, using new technologies and systems.
