The state debt of Armenia exceeds 12 billion dollars
Armenia’s internal and external state debts have almost become equal. According to data published by the Ministry of Finance, it is clear that from June to September, the internal state debt increased by about 300 million dollars, reaching a total of 6 billion 205 million dollars.
Despite the increase in external debt between June and August, in September it decreased by about 4 million dollars compared to August, reaching a total of 6 billion 295 million dollars. The Central Bank’s debt has also risen. From June to September, it increased from 508 million dollars to 521.6 million dollars.
In total, Armenia’s state debt is 12 billion 496 million dollars.
Armenia’s state debt is increasing mainly due to internal debt. What is internal debt? In economics, internal debt is as follows: economic entities and the population from whom financial resources have been raised for the implementation of state programs and orders, the circulation of securities, and other purposes, are called internal debt. In simple terms, it is the debt to the citizens, firms, and institutions of the country (i.e., the holders of the country’s securities).
Since 2020, Armenia’s external and internal debts have been increasing. Over the past 4 years, the state debt has grown by almost 5 billion dollars.
