Armenia is restoring degraded landscapes

Deputy Minister of Environment, Ara Mkrtchyan, received the delegations from the World Bank and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

They arrived in Armenia within the framework of the technical assistance mission for the “Resilient Landscapes of Armenia” program. During the meeting, the progress of the program, the initiatives being implemented, as well as the upcoming steps aimed at the efficient management of natural resources, increasing the resilience of landscapes, and the preservation of ecosystems were discussed. The “Resilient Landscapes of Armenia” program aims to restore the country’s degraded landscapes by increasing forest cover and protecting wetlands.

The program plans to establish 12,500 hectares of forest and restore 1,200 hectares of wetlands, which will improve water resource conservation, reduce the risk of natural disasters, and support biodiversity preservation. The initiative will also contribute to the creation of “green” jobs and the development of community businesses, thereby reducing pressure on natural resources.
