The number of tourists decreased by 7% in 2024 compared to 2023

In a press conference summarizing the work of the Ministry of Economy in 2024, Minister Gevorg Papoyan discussed the flow of tourists visiting Armenia, noting that approximately 2.215 million tourists visited Armenia in 2024.

The number has decreased by about 7% compared to 2023. According to the minister, the decrease is only in the number of tourists from Russia. For example, the number of tourists from India, the UAE, Georgia, Iran, France, China, and South Korea has increased. The government’s goal is to have 2.5 million tourists annually by 2026.

According to data for the period from January to October 2024, the most tourism visits to Armenia came from Russia (43%), Georgia (11%), and Iran (7%).

Despite the decline in the number of tourists from Russia to Armenia, the country was among the top five most popular destinations for Russian tourists during the New Year period. 7 percent of Russians visit Armenia for the New Year.

In December 2024, Minister Gevorg Papoyan announced plans to build new tourism clusters in Armenia, with an investment of 100 million dollars. The purpose of these clusters is to boost the development of the tourism sector and contribute to the country’s economic progress. The clusters will be built in Armenia’s regions. The project is being implemented with the support of the World Bank.
