8.8 Billion AMD Allocated for Teacher Salaries, 540 New IT Labs Opened: Minister of Education Summarizes 2024

Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan has summarized the achievements of her ministry in 2024. During a press conference, the minister highlighted the opening of science and IT laboratories in schools and the implementation of teacher salary programs.

Andreasyan noted challenges in the practical application of knowledge, which the laboratory initiative aims to address. Over 540 schools were equipped with science and IT labs this year, with nearly half of the country’s schools now having well-equipped laboratories.

Regarding teacher salary programs, the minister stated that there are 5 distinct initiatives. And as a result of this over 8.8 billion AMD will be allocated for teacher compensation through additional programs. These efforts are primarily tied to the outcomes of voluntary certification processes.

As a result of last year’s voluntary certification, more than 6,100 teachers have already received salary adjustments, accounting for about 20% of the teaching workforce. Through a combination of ranking and voluntary certification systems, over 1,600 teachers now earn 300,000–400,000 AMD per month, while more than 500 teachers receive over 400,000 AMD monthly—2.5 times higher than last year’s figures.

Andreasyan also highlighted the appeal of teaching jobs, noting that 56.6% of newly employed teachers are working in rural schools. 16% of them are men.

It was previously reported that this year’s voluntary teacher certification was conducted electronically for the first time. A total of 6,260 teachers applied, including 572 non-active participants. Out of roughly 5,000 active teachers, 1,000 were unable to pass the certification.
