Classrooms in schools must be designed strictly according to government standards
Last week, it became known that one of the classrooms in the school of Vahramaberd village, Shirak Province, was named after a high-ranking official currently serving in the Armed Forces. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed this issue during the government session on November 28, stating that every corner of the school must be designed strictly in accordance with government standards.
Neither the Minister of Defense, the Chief of the General Staff, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, nor the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure were informed about this decision. Pashinyan instructed the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports to annul the decision.
Shirak Governor Mushegh Muradyan addressed the issue, stating that the naming of the classroom was requested by the village residents.
Speaking about standards in schools, it is also important to note that it is mandatory for school budgets to be posted in visible areas, which is rarely the case in most schools. School principals explain this by claiming that the budget is an internal matter, and making it accessible could provoke additional questions. They also mention that the budget is available on the school’s website, making it unnecessary to post it on walls.
In reality, displaying the budget in schools could have a positive impact on the transparency and accountability of school management. Additionally, it could serve an educational and preventive role for students, encouraging them to take better care of school property by making them aware of the costs involved in maintaining and purchasing items from the budget.
