The most popular names in Armenia in 2023 have been revealed

In Armenia, great attention is paid to children’s names. Many families choose names for their children considering their cultural and historical significance, while some parents prefer fashionable and unique names. It can be confidently stated that most newborns are named after heroes, famous personalities, or their ancestors. According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, in 2023, the most popular name for girls was Nane (758 children), and for boys, it was Davit (1,268 children).

This trend has been consistent since 2013. The previously popular names Narek and Ani of 2012 have not ranked at the top for over a decade.

In the preferences for girls’ names, Nare was followed by Arpi (617), Maria (528), Lucy (400), Mane (372), and Eva (370).

For boys, after Davit, the most frequently given names were Narek (913), Hayk (610), Mark (575), Tigran (568), and Mikael (523).

Among surnames, the most common was Sargsyan. In 2023, 1,072 children were born with this surname in Armenia, followed by Khachatryan, Harutyunyan, Grigoryan, and Hovhannisyan.
