Sale of horse meat of unknown origin prevented

The Food Safety Inspection Body discovered a large quantity of horse meat of unknown origin—965 kilograms—in the Gegharkunik region.

According to the information received, the meat was intended for sale in the area adjacent to the “GUM” market in Yerevan and in the city of Vanadzor.

The sale of the meat was prevented, and the confiscated meat was destroyed under the supervision of the inspection body.

According to the Food Safety Inspection Body (FSIB), inspections continued over the weekend as well.

Days ago, in the meat sales outlets located in the city of Vardenis, Gegharkunik region, the presence of documents confirming the slaughterhouse origin of the meat, the hygienic conditions of storage and sale, as well as compliance with established temperature regimes, were also inspected. As a result of the inspections, 62 kg of meat of non-slaughterhouse origin was confiscated and destroyed.
