Hripsime Hunanyan resigns as chair of the NA Standing Committee

Hripsime Hunanyan, a Member of the National Assembly (NA) of the Republic of Armenia, has submitted her resignation from the position of Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Health Care. She announced this on social media.

In her post, Hunanyan noted that the decision was driven by the public criticism surrounding statements she had recently made in the National Assembly. She apologized for the phrasing that caused dissatisfaction and anger among citizens, emphasizing that public speech is a vital part of political activity, and one must take responsibility in case of mistakes.

The lawmaker also announced that she is withdrawing her candidacy from being included in the “Civil Contract” Party’s proportional list for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Hunanyan stated that despite her resignation, she will continue to serve the state and society.

It should be recalled that Hripsime Hunanyan was elected as a Member of the NA on June 20, 2021, through the national proportional list of the “Civil Contract” Party. She was elected as Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Health Care on October 2, 2025. At that time, her election became a subject of public and political debate, as she held only a vocational education and is a nurse by profession.
