Cerebral palsy surgery to be performed in Armenia for the first time

The first-ever surgery for cerebral palsy in Yerevan is scheduled for April of this year. This was announced by Davit Karapetyan, Head of the Health Department, during the operational meeting of the Yerevan Municipality.

He detailed that a working visit to Shanghai took place from February 2 to 6, where a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the local children’s hospital and Yerevan’s “Surb Astvatsamayr” (Holy Mother of God) Medical Center regarding the surgical and rehabilitative treatment of cerebral palsy. According to him, joint surgeries were already performed during the visit, providing significant experience to Armenian specialists.

Karapetyan noted that such surgeries in Armenia were planned to be carried out specifically at the “Surb Astvatsamayr” Medical Center. The registration and recruitment of patients will begin there. Such a surgery has not yet been performed in the region.

The necessary equipment, valued at approximately 24 million dollars, will be provided by the Chinese side, while subsequent treatment and rehabilitation will be organized at the “Surb Astvatsamayr” rehabilitation center.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, in his turn, emphasized that it will be possible to perform such a surgery for the first time in the region specifically in Yerevan.
