The Case of the Lecturer Dismissed from YSU Continues; The Issue Reaches the MoESCS
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MoESCS) Zhanna Andreasyan addressed the case of Sahak Manukyan, a lecturer dismissed from YSU (Yerevan State University), in parliament, noting that the Ministry received the complaint and sent it to the university for review.
“This is not a single incident but rather continuous misconduct. Our students are mature enough to understand the content of a lecture and distinguish between an educational objective and political or personal emphasis. Lecturers should avoid wasting time and using classrooms for other purposes,” the Minister emphasized.
Andreasyan noted that non-academic conversations developed in universities over the years, non-academic statements addressed to students, or political commentary must remain in the past. “Targeting students is unacceptable. If they do not tolerate such behavior, they are acting correctly,” she said.
The Minister also responded to comments concerning the “Gevorgyan” Seminary, noting that it is a licensed higher education institution and the same requirements apply to it.
“Here, the reference is to the speech of an inspector, which could be perceived as a political statement. That issue is currently under discussion, and such cases will not go unnoticed,” Andreasyan added.
