More than Eight Clergymen Summoned to the Investigative Committee in Connection with the Recording of Archbishop Natan

More than eight clergymen from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Diocese of Aragatsotn have been summoned to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by lawyer Ara Zohrabyan.

According to him, the clergymen have been invited in the capacity of a witness within the framework of a criminal proceeding related to the recording involving Archbishop Natan Hovhannisyan.

Zohrabyan noted that not only ordinary priests but also high-ranking clergymen have been summoned to the Investigative Committee. They are required to appear for questioning today and tomorrow. It should be recalled that in October, pro-government media outlets published a recording made in 2023, where Aghan Abegah Yernjakyan, former Staff-bearer of Karekin II, talks with Archbishop Natan Hovhannisyan, Director of the Mother See’s Foreign Relations and Protocol Department, complaining that the Catholicos forces him to participate in anti-government protests.

On October 17, it became known that a criminal proceeding was initiated based on that recording.
