Ministry of defense denies statement on infiltration attempt in Meghri direction: It was disseminated by a colonel
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) of the Republic of Armenia has denied the statement made by Naira Gevorgyan, a Colonel in the reserve of the Armed Forces, regarding an attempted infiltration by the adversary in the direction of the Meghri military unit.
Naira Gevorgyan had earlier stated that an infiltration attempt was recorded in the specified direction on December 7-8, which, according to her, was repelled by the Armenian Armed Forces. She simultaneously noted that the soldiers were given a “do not shoot” command from their superior officers.
According to Aram Torosyan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, this information does not correspond to reality. In his words, the statement is misinformation. The MoD spokesperson also called on the media and the public to be guided by official information and to refrain from disseminating unconfirmed data. Simultaneously, he noted that the relevant bodies may examine the statement presented and, if necessary, provide a legal assessment.
However, in the statement, attention must also be paid to the spokesperson’s reaction regarding the active colonel. He described her as “an individual who ‘stood out,’ to put it mildly, with an inglorious service record in the Armed Forces.” This raises the question: why is this person serving if such an opinion exists about her?
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense reaffirmed that information regarding the border situation is regularly published through official sources and urged the public to follow only reliable reports.
