Armenia transfers terrorists sentenced to life imprisonment to Syria

Citizens of the Syrian Arab Republic, Yousef Alabet al-Haji and Muhrab Muhammad al-Shkher, who were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Republic of Armenia, were transferred to the competent authorities of the Syrian Arab Republic on January 13 through the territory of the Republic of Turkey. The information was reported by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

According to the Ministry, the transfer was carried out within the framework of cooperation between the relevant competent authorities and existing legal mechanisms. The convicts will continue to serve their sentences in their home country.

It is worth recalling that these Syrian citizens were sentenced to life imprisonment in Armenia in 2021. They were found guilty of international terrorism, serious violations of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts, and mercenarism.

Within the scope of the criminal case, it was established that they participated in the 44-day military operations around Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. According to law enforcement data, during the war, the Syrian mercenaries were transported to Azerbaijan through the territory of Turkey, having previously undergone military training in Syria between June and September 2020. They had been promised a bounty of 100 dollars for every Armenian killed.
