New regulation for citizens over 27 who have not completed mandatory service: National Assembly approved the amendments
During its session on February 11, the National Assembly adopted legislative amendments concerning citizens aged 27–37 who reside abroad and have not completed their military service. The bill passed its second and final reading.
The amendments stipulate that citizens who have reached the age of 27 and have not completed mandatory military service can voluntarily return to Armenia and be exempted from criminal liability by choosing one of the service or monetary payment options.
According to the adopted regulation, the following options are available: a 2.5 million AMD payment for serving 12 months, a 5 million AMD payment for serving 6 months, or an 8 million AMD payment for serving 1 month. If an individual chooses not to serve at all, the fee is set at 15 million AMD.
The bill received 86 votes in favor, 0 against, and 5 abstentions. The “Armenia” faction voted in favor, while the “With Honor” faction abstained.
The new regulation will apply to all citizens who have reached the age of 27, replacing the previous provision of limited application.
The author of the bill is Hayk Sargsyan.
