Serzh Sargsyan’s Restrictive Measure Remains Unchanged
The court rejected the prosecution’s motion to apply a ban on leaving the country as a restrictive measure against the third President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. Only the measure of restraint—bail—will be applied against him. This was reported to journalists by Sargsyan’s defense attorney, Ruben Hakobyan.
“I cannot disclose many details, the court session was held behind closed doors. The motion was rejected, which means that the ban on leaving was not applied,” Hakobyan said. He noted that if the court had seen a solid reason, it would have satisfied the motion.
After the court session, Serzh Sargsyan addressed the widespread suspicions regarding his leaving the country and stated that he does not intend to flee.
It should be recalled that the four criminal cases related to Sargsyan are currently being examined in two separate proceedings: including the “Diesel Case,” which was merged with the case involving Robert Kocharyan’s elder son, Sedrak Kocharyan, and former businessman Mikhail Baghdasarov, as well as the cases of taking a bribe from Silva Hambardzumyan and the alienation of lands on Isakov Avenue in another proceeding.
