What has the new mayor of Gyumri declared?
For the first time in Armenia’s history, primary elections (primaries) were held in Gyumri on December 8, 9, and 10. Among the 7 candidates, independent Sarik Minasyan received the majority of the votes and became the acting mayor of Gyumri.
In September 2021, he submitted a declaration of his assets to the Corruption Prevention Commission. According to the official website, Minasyan declared:
- An apartment in Gyumri
- A Mercedes Benz (1998 model)
- A Mercedes Benz (2008 model)
- 1,150,000 AMD in a bank account
- $10,200 and 8,668,000 AMD in cash
Previously, Sarik Minasyan served as a member of the “Bright Armenia” parliamentary faction in the National Assembly.
The position of Gyumri mayor has been vacant since October. 14 members of the city council’s “Balasanyan Alliance” and Mayor Vardges Samsonyan resigned amid accusations against Samvel Balasanyan and his affiliates.
