Vladimir Putin Expresses Desire to Meet with Donald Trump

In an interview with the “Rossiya 27” TV channel, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his desire to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. He stated that the meeting would be an opportunity to “calmly discuss” issues of mutual interest.

The Russian president added that, considering today’s realities, they could have a composed discussion about topics of interest to both the United States and Russia. He emphasized that they are ready for the meeting.

Putin referred to Trump as a “pragmatist,” noting that he would not make decisions on sanctions that could harm the American economy. Putin also commented on his relationship with Trump, saying it has always been exclusively businesslike, pragmatic, and trustworthy.

Newly inaugurated U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier expressed his willingness to meet with Vladimir Putin without delay. Trump’s National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, announced on January 12 that preparations for the meeting were underway.

Previously, Trump had promised to negotiate the end of the war in Ukraine immediately after assuming office on January 20. He had also expressed skepticism regarding U.S. military and financial aid to Kyiv. In this context, Trump stated that the war, which creates a bloody mess in the world, must come to an end.
