During the competition, Armenian skier Mikayel Mikayelyan covered the “Azerbaijan” inscription on his sportswear using adhesive tape. Following the incident, the federation fined the athlete, considering that the move contradicted the rules in force during international competitions.
In response to the application, the body stated that all steps and measures applied to such cases are regulated by internal procedures, and in the event of repeated violations, appropriate sanctions and fines are possible.
According to the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, the depoliticization of sports, as well as the exclusion of ethnic hatred, racism, and other negative manifestations, should be one of the fundamental conditions for all competitions.
Since last year, cooperation has been established between the International Ski and Snowboard Federation and Azerbaijan for the purpose of developing winter tourism. During the World Cup held in Italy, Azerbaijan was a sponsoring country.
