Hakob Hakobyan to continue as member of Television and Radio Commission
The National Assembly has rejected the demand of the opposition “Armenia” faction to terminate the powers of Hakob Hakobyan, a member of the Television and Radio Commission (TRC).
A total of 28 deputies participated in the closed secret ballot, all of whom voted in favor. No “against,” “abstain,” or “invalid” votes were recorded. Hayk Konjoryan, the leader of the “Civil Contract” faction, had announced as early as yesterday, February 12, that the faction would not participate in the voting as it opposed the initiative.
The “Armenia” faction claimed that Hakob Hakobyan violated the requirements for political neutrality and restraint expected of a TRC member by making insulting remarks about the “Armenian Revolutionary Federation” (ARF) party during an interview with “1in.am” (First News).
Responding to questions in the National Assembly, Hakob Hakobyan noted that “being correct does not mean remaining silent out of fear of political pressure.”
It should be noted that Hakob Hakobyan was nominated as a TRC member by “Civil Contract” and was elected by the National Assembly in 2022.
