Extraordinary Elections May Be Held in Gyumri
The leader of the “Civil Contract” faction of the Gyumri municipal council, Qnarik Harutyunyan, mentioned that during the upcoming council meeting, their faction does not intend to nominate a candidate for mayor or vote in favor of candidates nominated by other factions. Without their votes, the community head cannot be elected. To resolve the issue, extraordinary elections will be held in Gyumri.
However, our further cooperation with the ‘Balasanyan’ alliance did not work out, or at least it did not work out in the way we had hoped and which would have been more beneficial for the city, we terminated the coalition cooperation agreement, intending to serve the community from an opposition position until the end of the current council’s term, – wrote Qnarik Harutyunyan.
The “Balasanyan Alliance” led Gyumri for 3 years. In October, the 14 members of the alliance’s council and Gyumri Mayor Vardges Samsonyan resigned. This was preceded by charges against Samvel Balasanyan and his affiliates, related to land misuse and corruption.
Until the extraordinary elections, Gyumri will be governed by the head of the municipal staff.
