Supreme Spiritual Council meeting underway at Mother See

At these hours, a meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council is being held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. Father Asoghik stated in a conversation with journalists that currently only this meeting is taking place, and additional information will be available upon its conclusion.

Father Asoghik characterized the current atmosphere at the Mother See as “peaceful, prayerful,” emphasizing that he could not say how many of the 8 clergymen who met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan yesterday are participating in the meeting.

According to earlier information, two meetings were simultaneously being held at the Mother See: one of bishops and one of monastics. At present, however, only the meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council has been officially confirmed.

It should be noted that yesterday Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting with a group of bishops, including Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan, Archbishop Arakel Karamyan, Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Bishop Anushavan Zhamkochyan, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, Archbishop Navasard Kjoyan, Bishop Arakel Tigranyan, and Bishop Gevorg Saroyan.

Additionally, information was being disseminated in pro-government media outlets, according to which about a dozen bishops and archbishops had issued a joint statement sharply criticizing the Catholicos.
