Spiritual Council meeting not held; Mother See denies published accusations

The meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council scheduled for today at the Mother See was not held, due to the absence of several members: Archbishop Navasard Kjoyan, Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan, Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, and Bishop Gevorg Saroyan.

Despite this, the attendees addressed the statement published with the signatures of nine bishops. According to the Mother See, the text completely distorts the work of the commission established to address the issue of Archbishop T. Arshak Khachatryan.

The commission did not convene any meetings and did not provide the opportunity to meet with His Holiness, while the conclusion presented to the Catholicos was compiled through an improper procedure. The commission also did not officially apply to the Investigative Committee for an expert examination of the video attributed to His Holiness, and the conclusion obtained by an individual member of the commission was acquired in violation of the law and cannot be considered a credible basis.

The Mother See informs that the Primate, Archbishop T. Khajak Parsamyan, taking into account the ineffective work of the commission, suggested to the Catholicos to form a new commission composed of three persons, which could also discuss the temporary suspension of His Holiness’s service. The members of the commission have given their consent regarding the proposal for a new commission.

According to the Mother See, the attendees once again called on the clergy to return to the canonical field, expressing their concerns in the highest synodal bodies of the Church.

Let us remind you that yesterday Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting with a number of bishops, specifically Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan, Archbishop Arakel Karamyan, Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Bishop Anushavan Zhamkochyan, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, Archbishop Navasard Kjoyan, Bishop Arakel Tigranyan, and Bishop Gevorg Saroyan.
